THE IMPORTANCE OF PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT PHOTOS

THE IMPORTANCE OF PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT PHOTOS

Do you have a business that sells physical products? If so, then read on to find out why it’s important to have professional product photography done for all of your products.

Shopping online had become more popular than ever. But selling products online comes with its own set of challenges. That’s because most people like to touch and feel a product before purchasing it. And without that option, the next best thing is having a variety of product photos to give customers a sense of what the product “feels” like.

Most human beings are very visual, which is why visual information such as photographs will influence their minds more than written information.

If you were to try and sell a product with just a written description and no photos, chances are you won’t make many sales.

But when you provide photos of that product showing every angle, and showcasing the product in use or with stylish props, you’ll increase your sales exponentially. That’s because photos create a sense of trust. More than that, they allow the viewer to envision having that product in their hands as they’re able to imagine better what it would be like to have it. Thereby, inspiring them to make a decision to buy.

However, not just any photos will do. It’s imperative that the photos are professional. That’s because the majority of online shoppers rely on product photos to make a decision.

Statistics show that 90% of online buyers say that photo quality is the most important factor in an online sale.

Not only that, but pretty photos are a lot more likely to be shared across social media. So when your photos are great, your business will get a lot more “word of mouth” advertising online.

That means that without top-notch product photos, your business will suffer.

White Background vs Styled vs Lifestyle Photography

There are three types of product photography. The simplest one being a product against a clean white background where said product is crystal clear and easy to see without any distraction. These types of photos are important and often required by big e-Commerce sites like Amazon.

Then there are styled product photos. These can be quite creative and make the products look pretty and fun. Different props can be used to style around the product itself to make it pop and grab the attention of online shoppers. It’s good to have a few of these to give your potential customer that extra visual inspiration to buy your products.

And finally, there’s lifestyle product photography. These are similar to styled photos but can also include an additional human element. So these could be photos showing the product being in use. For example, in fashion photography, a model wearing footwear is a much better visual than just the shoes sitting on a rack.

Considering that 78% of online shoppers want photographs to bring products to life (according to a study by Big Commerce), it’s important to include all types of photos in your online listings.

So in conclusion, your online business depends on professional product photography. It’s an involvement that will make all the difference in the number of sales you make.

When looking for a photographer, make sure to check their portfolio to see if their style matches your vision or ask them questions about what they can do for you.
